Cathie Travers – Accordion

Award-winning composer and performer Cathie Travers has spent her life breaking musical boundaries. Her playing ranges from celtic folk through tango and jazz to experimental chamber music and Twentieth Century classical music.

The SYDNEY MORNING HERALD had this to say:

Cathie Travers’ music embraces the gamut of hard-edged contemporary pungency to sweetness, nostalgia, and up-beat extrovert wit.

Travers freelances as a soloist, as Musical Director for dance and theatre companies, and as a featured performer with various chamber ensembles and orchestras. She also leads tango, gypsy and fusion ensembles and performs with an array of folk, blues, rock, jazz and new music groups.

She is in demand as a session musician, appearing on CD’s by Australian artists such as Bernard Carney, David Hyams, Snakefish and Brenda Chapman, and has collaborated with such eminent performers as Slava Grigoryan, Robyn Archer, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Balanescu Quartet, Black Swan Theatre Company and the Juniper Chamber Orchestra. Her work has been featured in major Australian arts festivals and at concerts in Canada, the USA, the UK, Malaysia, Thailand and Japan.
